Homosexuality has been documented in more than species of vertebrates signaling that sexual preference is biologically determined in animals. From Male bonobos that hang from trees and engage in "penis fencing" to bull manatees and bottlenose dolphins, the animal kingdom tolerates all kinds of lifestyles. Homosexuality has been documented in almost species of animals, signaling that sexual preference is predetermined. Considered the closest living relative to humans, bonobos are not shy about seeking sexual pleasure.

Are there any homosexual animals?
The pairing of same sex couples had previously been observed in more than 1, species including penguins, dolphins and primates. However, in the latest study the authors claim the phenomenon is not only widespread but part of a necessary biological adaptation for the survival of the species. They found that on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, almost a third of the Laysan albatross population is raised by pairs of two females because of the shortage of males. Through these 'lesbian' unions, Laysan albatross are flourishing.

Gay behaviour 'is the norm for most animals': 1,500 different species engage in 'homosexual' acts
Bottlenose dolphins have been observed engaging in homosexual behaviors before. Researchers from Murdoch University have discovered that male bottlenose dolphins in western Australia are engaging in sexual behavior with members of the same sex. The same-sex romps were observed in dolphins living in the waters outside the coastal city of Mandurah, south of Perth, in Western Australia. The researchers focused on a pod that contains 15 male dolphins, which were observed after the peak of the mating season was over.
